The number of people who smoke tends to increase year by year. However, the number of people who die because of smoking is also increasing.
People smoke for many reasons. To some people smoking relieve them from stress, other people smoke for prestige. Still others are smoking because of the influence of their environment. Smoking is also something pleasure and gives inspiration for creativity.
Smoking actually is a great health hazard because of its effects on the body. The average life ex-pectancy of a smoker is three to four years less than that of a nonsmoker. How does smoking harm our health? The nicotine found in tobacco harms the nervous system there by causes the smokers hard to give up smoking. Nicotine is also poisonous, consequently causing heart attacks, stomach disturbances and intestinal ulcer to heavy smokers. Moreover, the tars contained in tobacco are believed to be one of the major factors that lead to lung cancer and other types of cancer among others are bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia and tuberculosis.
Additionally, pregnant mothers who smoke are likely to affect the embryo causing the baby after birth to suffer from bronchitis and pneumonia.
Another disadvantage of smoking is that a number of nonsmokers may be affected by inhaling the harmful smoke puffed even by one smoker.
So, think hard before you start smoking.
